Mission Statement

KOCT, North San Diego County’s Community PEG* Channel, is an exclusive, independent, non-profit, educational media conduit.  KOCT’s focus is on the topics and issues of importance to the people of North San Diego County.

KOCT History

In 1984, with the encouragement and support of the City of Oceanside, a separate non-profit corporation, Oceanside Community Service Television Corporation (KOCT) was formed.

KOCT was made responsible for providing Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) access programming to the citizens of Oceanside.

We Are Your Channel

KOCT- Your Community Channel is celebrating over 30 years of community television service in the City of Oceanside. Oceanside Community Television (KOCT) is a non-profit Corporation that provides public, educational and government access programming and services on Cox Communications Channels 18 and 19, as well as on AT&T U-Verse. KOCT also hosts a website, koct.org, where both channels are available via streaming video as well as many programs that are available as VOD (Video On Demand).

KOCT provides "live" coverage and replays of all City Council meetings, produces and airs documentaries, News Briefs,election programs, talk shows and a variety of other community programs. KOCT also provides a Community Calendar bulletin board so that government and local non-profit agencies can publicize their events.

KOCT is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representing various segments of the community and operates with three full-time staff members, part-time staff, and the assistance of student interns and volunteers.

A contract agreement with the City of Oceanside stipulates that KOCT is responsible for Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) access. KOCT's channel 19 is the Government Channel with City-related information and programming. The County Television Network (CTN) is also shown on channel 19.

Channel 18 is the Community Channel and provides a range of programming including public and educational access, local origination and the California Channel. Both Channels 18 and 19 are in operation 24 hours a day.

KOCT supplies all of the technical assistance and equipment for the production of its programs. It augments its professional staff with volunteers and student interns from local colleges. The station provides invaluable experience for individuals interested in telecommunications careers. Student interns and interested volunteers can obtain valuable on-the-job experience.

KOCT's continued success and growth will ensure that the people of Oceanside retain a mass media platform well into the 21st century. KOCT's award-winning programs and services have brought national recognition and acclaim to KOCT - Your Community Channel.

Program Hosts

Elaine Swann

Oceanside Spectrum

Elaine Swann has been with KOCT as the host of Spectrum on KOCT’s channel 18. Elaine interviews non-profit organizations, Civic Clubs and Members of the Faith and Education communities. She has the talent to make these organizations feel at ease and allows them to inform the community about their upcoming events, membership drives and volunteer opportunities. Elaine has also been seen on the “Today Show, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX News” as a Social Media Commentator. Elaine is a special correspondent on San Diego’s NBC 7, has a syndicated column and offers workshops and seminars. Besides being on camera, Elaine is an Author, Speaker and Etiquette Consultant. She runs the day-to-day operations of a multi-media company. She oversees five divisions of the company which includes a Coaching Series, Broadcasting, Publishing, Merchandising and Internet content. But Elaine doesn’t stop there. She is an avid writer who has written three books “Girls Have Style”, “Technology Today” and “The Power of Polite”. She has also been awarded the Bethel Memorial Phenomenal Woman Award” and has been listed in the Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals. She is an active volunteer art the Milestone House for girls and a trustee board member of Girls Inc. Elaine has lectured and held training sessions at the University of Southern Calif. (USC), San Diego University (SDSU), the United States Marine Corp Civilian Leadership Development, the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) , Executive Women International (EWI) National Association of Professional Organizers, San Diego and she has spoken at Del Mar, Carlsbad, Palm Desert, San Francisco and Oceanside Chambers of Commerce. Elaine is not only a KOCT family member but she is a firehouse of enthusiasm and kindness and her many contributions to KOCT are gratefully appreciated.


John Bonosoro

North County Voice

John Bonosoro, developer of the Triangles at Work concept and company of the same name has been working at advancing the leading edge of leadership development and brand marketing for over twenty-five years.
After many years of leadership positions in military and business organizations, John became a teacher and consultant, collaborating with students and clients to bring them to new levels of personal and organizational success.  In addition to these two permanent roles, John frequently presents on leadership and other business topics as an individual and as part of the Motova8 and Performex training organizations.
John’s clients and students have found his basic tenet is that human behavior is holistic, that behaviors proving to be functional in one area of life will be functional in other areas as well. Approaching life as a whole rather than as independent segments removes a lot of the stress that has been placed on people who are trained to approach each area of life with a different set of tools.
John’s background includes executive management of firms ranging in size from one employee to one hundred million in annual revenue, a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, an MBA, ABD-DBA, not-for-profit board membership, and frequent appearances as a local television host.


Tom Morrow

Living Legacies

Being a resident in Oceanside for over 21 years, Tom has been in the public spotlight for many years.  He started his notoriety as the business editor, featured writer, and daily columnist for the Blade-Citizen/ North County Times.  After retiring in 2009, Tom has devoted most of his time and efforts to KOCT.  When Tom first joined the KOCT family in 1994 he was the original host of the “Journalist Roundtable.”  Tom has also produced and hosted “Living Legacies” for the past 14 years.  “Living Legacies” is Tom’s pride and joy.  This show gives our current viewers and future generations the opportunity to witness, and hear for themselves, how people have helped shape our unique community.  KOCT donates copies of “Living Legacies” to the Oceanside Historical Society and the program has become an archival video reference for our community. KOCT is very privileged to have Tom Morrow on our board.  He not only brings an in-depth insight into journalism but his true love and caring for the Oceanside community is self evident.  Mr. Tom Morrow, sometimes known as “Mr. Oceanside” has become one of our own “Living Legacies.”

Margret Merlock


Margret is a retired nurse & a former member of the Tri-City Medical Center Board of Directors.   She has volunteered since 1976 with UCSD's Interface-providing lip & palate surgery for Mexican children.



Elizabeth "Liz" Rhea

Immediate Past Chair

She comes from Elmhurst III, which is just outside of Chicago. She moved to the Los Angeles area in the 80's where she was privileged to work in providing help for the 1988 Olympics. Shortly after that she moved to the Central Coast where she and her sister opened a small "Mom and Pop” restaurant. This is also where she met her husband George and opened their safety company.
In 1999, she and her husband moved their business to Oceanside. Shortly after the move, they became members of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. She has also served as Chair of the OCC, volunteered in the Golf outing, chaired for the Operation Appreciation for five years and has volunteered for numerous other Chamber events.
Liz has also become a member and is Vice-Chair for the Armed Services YMCA on Camp Pendleton. Liz has served on the Board for KOCT for the past 4 years and is now serving as Chair. Liz brings a vast array of knowledge and ability to the board.
Liz loves living in Oceanside. She enjoys the small town atmosphere while still living in a bustling city. As she says: "it's a tough job living here, but someone has to do it."


Kent Davy

Vice Chair

Kent Davy was the editor of the North County Times until its sale in October 2012. He was born and raised in the Midwest, graduated from both undergraduate school and law school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After practicing law several years, he switched careers for journalism. He worked at newspapers in Missouri, New York, Illinois and Indiana before taking over the helm of the North County Times in 1996. In 2008, he was named the Suburban Newspaper Association Editor of the Year. He is a Carlsbad resident and continues to write and edit freelance columns and material from a favorite spot in his kitchen.


Debbie Allen


Debbie was born in West Covina, CA. In reality she grew up in Baldwin Park, a town that was named after the Horseman Lucky Baldwin. She is a native Californian and graduated from the college of Mortuary Science at Cypress College. She has been working in the Death Care Profession since her graduation. She moved to Oceanside in 2002 and is now the General Manager to Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory.
One of her most memorable and remarkable tasks she undertook when she first arrived was taking on the three day, 24-hour open event of supervising the viewing of one of the two traveling Vietnam Walls. This huge task was not only memorable for our community but also for our Vietnam Veterans. Debbie has always been a hands-on person. She has also served as Chair of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, volunteering for the Operation Appreciation and of course serving on the Board for KOCT and the Joe and Mary Mottino YMCA for the past 3 years.
She also spends her time with her loving husband Steve. It is not uncommon to see them walking the Oceanside Harbor and enjoying a breakfast in one of the local restaurants. As Debbie says, "I love that I live in a destination town that others only dream of living in.”


Kierstin Hill


Born and raised in Oceanside, Kierstin Hill has enjoyed the many beach and water activities Oceanside has to offer.  As a junior lifeguard, surfer, surf instructor, swimmer and water polo player, she could not stay dry.  After she graduating from Vista High School, she pursued her education at San Diego State University, majoring in Journalism with an emphasis in Media.  She continued her water polo career at SDSU as well, fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a collegiate student-athlete.  Kierstin moved back to Oceanside after she graduated and works for the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce as the Event and Marketing Assistant where she enjoys interacting with the community through the various committees and events.  She is very excited to serve as a member on the KOCT Board of Directors and looks forward to providing assistance in the new media age.




Robert "Camo" Gleisberg


Camo is well known in the Oceanside community because of his extensive community service including Director Emeritus of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Oceanside Pacific Kiwanis (OPK) Club, and past Vice President of OUSD’s Community Bond Oversight Committee.
Camo retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United Sates Marine Corps in 1989 after over 23 years of service.  He was the Assistant Chief of Staff, Comptroller for the 3rd MAW, 1st MarDiv, I MAF and MCAGCC.  A year ago he retired from the Pacific Marine Credit Union where he served in the position of Community Education & Development Officer. His wife of 35 years, Mary is well known for her many years of service with the Oceanside Unified School District.
KOCT is pleased to have Camo join the KOCT Board of Directors with his diverse background and many community affiliations.



Gwen Price


Gwen Price is the current Past Chair. Gwen has shown her devotion to the TV station by the many activities she has participated in and her willingness to do whatever is needed for KOCT. Gwen not only volunteers at KOCT but she has also served as an Oceanside Planning Commissioner. She also has volunteered as the Past-President of American Association of University Women Tri-Cities Chapter. Gwen has also served as Vice-President of her Homeowners’ Association for 11 years, and was voted “Woman of the Year” by the local chapter of AARP. Before devoting a lot of her time to volunteering to these organizations, Gwen retired as a College Administrator, but Gwen did not stop there, she is now an active full-time real estate agent. She has been married to her husband, of 29 years, Rick Price, CWO4 USMC Retired.  It is not uncommon to see them on their (yes, they both have one) Harley Davidson motorcycles cruising and enjoying this lovely area. Gwen also devoted her time to her son and their twin granddaughters.  If Gwen is not selling homes, volunteering, or cruising, she is enjoying her home she shares with their two golden retrievers. We are fortunate to have Gwen on our Board, as she shows an endless amount or energy and talent for KOCT.


Dr. Richard "Dick" Robertson


Dick is another Wisconsin transplant.  After receiving his Masters Degree from Michigan State University, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy and graduated from Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.  After serving during the Vietnam War, Dick left the service after serving as the Executive Officer of the USS Seneca.  This was his last tour before retiring from the Navy.  After the Navy, Dick served as Dean of Students at Butler County Community College and was an adjunct business professor for ten years at the same College. Moving to Oceanside in 1987, Dick took the position as Vice President of Student Services at Mira Costa College.  Dick has served at Mira Costa as Interim Vice President, Instruction from 2006-2007. Dick has also served as the President of the California Community College Chief of Student Services Administrators Association.  In addition, he has participated in eight accreditation teams for California community colleges.  He has given greatly to the community in which he lives through his Church and volunteering at the Emergency Room at Tri-City Medical Center.  Dick has been married to his wonderful wife Pat for 40 years.  KOCT is proud to have such an accomplished education professional on the Board of Directors.


Gerald Hampton


Gerald was born in Madera, CA, but grew up in Indianapolis, IN.
Gerald is well known in the North San Diego County area for his community involvement and volunteer work with several non-profit organizations such as the North San Diego County NAACP, the National Naval Officers Association - Camp Pendleton Miramar Chapter, the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA) Camp Pendleton Chapter and Our Prodigal Daughters (OPD). 
Gerald retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 after 22 years of service during which he deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation “Desert Storm” and to Somalia for Operation “Restore Hope”. Two highlights of his military career are receiving the “Top Quality Marine” award, presented by General Samuel Jaskilka, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps at the time and being a Staff NCO Academy Honor Graduate, the first African American to accomplish this at the West Coast installation. 
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Gerald joined Nextel Communications and worked in several managerial billets during his time there. Gerald later joined the LA Fitness, International IT team as their Corporate IT Support Manager, overseeing IT support operations and personnel across the US and Canada.
Gerald is currently an independent Technology Consultant, providing technology, networking, social media and web development solutions and services to small businesses and non-profit organizations.  Gerald possesses a BS degree in Information Systems Management and a MBA degree with a specialty in Technology Management, both from the University Of Phoenix (UOP).
Gerald and his lovely wife, Stacy resides in Oceanside, CA.


Janet Lacy


Janet Lacy graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1974 and was admitted to the California Bar that same year. She is a partner in the Law Firm of Greenman, Lacy, Klein, O’Harra and Heffron, which is one of the oldest and largest law firms in North County.  She also served as Superior Court Judge Pro-Tem from 1978 – 1997. Married to husband Steve for 40 years, their two children are also attorneys who practice Family Law. Janet has been active with a number of service organizations, including Oceanside Unified School District Board of Education, Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, NAACP and Oceanside Rotary. Her dedication has earned her numerous awards, among them a City of Oceanside Certificate of Special Recognition, the NAACP President’s Award, and multiple Women’s Resource Center Lifetime Achievement Awards.


Alex Karvounis


Soon after Alex graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, he began traveling the world with his twin brother Nick, performing their original comedy variety show “Doubble Troubble.” After almost seven solid years of traveling, Alex returned to the United States where he was director of photography on his first feature film, Olive Juice, and a few years later producer for his second, titled R.S.V.P.  Alex then moved to Las Vegas, where he and his brother performed for more than 11 years. During this time, he returned to his roots in design and photography. He launched and continues to run VegasAuditions.com and Vegas Report Magazine, two entertainment-related companies in Las Vegas. For more than six years, he worked at Wynn Las Vegas Casino’s communications department as a creative supervisor and resident photographer. Currently, Alex resides in San Diego where he works as graphic designer and photography coordinator for MiraCosta College. He freelances as a food and beverage and product photographer in the greater San Diego area and is a licensed photographer for Getty Images.


Gumaro Escarcega


Gumaro Escarcega currently serves as the Main Street Program Manager at MainStreet Oceanside in Oceanside, California. With nine years of experience, his role is to implement the Main Street Four Point Approach, consisting of four standing committees: Design, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Organization. Committee stakeholders include downtown residents, businesses, property owners and commercial brokers working together to improve the economic vitality of Downtown Oceanside.
Before joining MainStreet Oceanside, Escarcega worked for the Vista Village Business Association in Vista, California as a non-paid intern, eventually becoming the Executive Director for the organization. Escarcega was instrumental in gaining partnership and collaboration with the City of Vista, Vista Chamber of Commerce and a variety of other organizations to improve the aesthetics and economic prosperity in Downtown Vista.
Escarcega holds a bachelor degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in City Planning from San Diego State University.


Kenneth Kebow


Ken Kebow is an Emmy Award winning producer based in California.  Kebow’s corporate clients include American Airlines, Apple, Callaway Golf, Ford, Google, JPL, and Qualcomm.  Kebow has also produced and directed numerous training programs for the United States Marines and several law enforcement organizations in California.
Kebow’s documentary work has been honored with an Emmy Award for short documentary and his programs have aired nationwide.  His most recent short documentary “The Whimsical Imagineer”, highlighting the life of Disney legend Rolly Crump, was recently honored with the “Audience Award” for short films at the 2016 Newport Beach Film Festival.


Tom Reeser

Executive Director

Tom Reeser holds a degree in communications from Cal State Fullerton and is also an independent filmmaker and was recently inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle for over 25 years in the television industry. For 22 years, Tom has been the guiding force and artistic inspiration of KOCT – the Oceanside Channels. He began his video career in the early ‘80s and at KOCT in 1987 as a video production technician. He quickly assumed the role of station manager and in 1990 Tom became KOCT’s Executive Director.


Jake Rush

Senior Producer 

A graduate of MiraCosta Community College and California State University, San Marcos with a BA in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Arts & Technology and Sociology, Jake began working with KOCT in the fall of 2002 as a production team member and currently oversees all aspects of KOCT projects.  Jake has over two decades of video production and postproduction experience.  He works with interns, volunteers, video professionals, elected officials, educators, city staff members and business leaders.  Outside of KOCT, Jake has worked with clients in the photography, manufacturing, biotech, action sport, corporate convention, engineering and health & wellness industries.  Jake is committed to providing the highest standards of quality production and postproduction and has won numerous local and national awards for his production and postproduction of live and edited projects.


Angela Miranda

Production Supervisor

Angela Miranda holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Telecommunications and Film from California State University, Los Angeles. She started her career at KOCT during her junior year of high school in 2004. She returned after college for an internship and was hired shortly after. Her award-winning, diverse skill-set, along with her years of experience, allow her to be an expert in re-Production, Production, and Post-Production.


Aaron Capehart

Administrative Assistant

Aaron Capehart’s background encompasses years of experience in Cinematography, Communication, and Business. He was first hired in September of 2006 as a Camera Operator. Through the years, Aaron has acquired many skills: such as, Studio Lighting, Editing, and Directing. He has contributed to many award-winning shows, and is now an asset to the daily operations of KOCT.


Bill Peters

Chief Engineer

He attended the University of California at Los Angeles and received his degree in engineering in 1959.  He continued his education to receive certificates in both technical and non-technical management. Bill has over thirty five years of experience in managing the design and construction of electronic information systems for Consolidated Systems Corporation, Scientific Data Systems and the Xerox Corporation.  Bill currently serves as KOCT Chief Engineer with duties that include, but are not limited to, equipment repair and installation, problem solving, program engineering.


Phoenix Von Hendy

IT Specialist

Phoenix Von Hendy is currently the IT Specialist at KOCT.  Phoenix has over 25 years experience in computer systems installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.  Although certified in UNIX System Administration and UNIX Security, her main area of expertise is with computers running Macintosh and Windows operating systems.  Phoenix started off in computers as a CAD systems operator but soon discovered she had a talent for troubleshooting and repair.  As a dedicated single-source computer services provider, she wears many hats, including Help Desk, Repair Technician, Systems/Network Administrator and Systems/Network Engineer.


Miguel Blanco

Lead Editor

Having lived in North San Diego County most of his life, Miguel graduated from MiraCosta College, then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia from California State University Hayward. He joined the KOCT team in 2009 and became Lead Editor in 2016.


Toby Maysey

Production Team

Toby started with short films as a kid with friends, but fell out of it in his teenage years. He rediscovered his passion for film and TV after working on various short films and news packages in college. Editing is now where his heart lies and he applies that passion to his projects at KOCT.


Tamara Ilich

Production Team

Tamara began interning for KOCT in June 2012. She was hired on as a Production Team Member after she graduated high school. She recently graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelors Degree in Television Production.


Jon Beltz

Production Team

A passionate Cinematographer and Editor, Jon is a filmmaking enthusiast. He discovered his passion for filmmaking early in his high school years by creating short films with his friends, videos for his high school, and eventually began an annual school film festival that occurs to this day at Murrieta Mesa High School.  Jon is currently pursuing an education in TV Production and Cinema at Palomar College to graduate with two AA degrees in the spring of 2016.


Kellie Davis

Production Team

Kellie Davis has over 20 years experience in the entertainment and journalism industries as a filmmaker, writer, producer, actress, and Salsa dancer.  In 2011, a stage play she wrote, Transitions: A Trilogy of One-Act Plays, was nominated for five NAACP Theatre Awards, winning Best Playwright Local and Best Ensemble.
Kellie was first introduced to KOCT when she recruited a few KOCT crewmembers to help make a short film she co-produced, called Between Shifts, shot throughout the cities of Oceanside and Carlsbad. Kellie is delighted to now call Oceanside home, and to be part of the KOCT production team.


Mario Im

Production Team 

After high school, Mario worked as a sushi chef until he decided to go back to school. He attended Palomar College to study 3D Animation for 3 years and transferred to CSU San Marcos to study visual and performing arts including video production, film, and graphic design.Through California State University San Marcos, Mario was led to KOCT - North County's Channel. He is now a member of KOCT's video production team and has been working on edit projects and studio productions.


Tyler Tran 

Production Team

Tyler graduated from Vista High School and Palomar College, studying editing and video production.
Tyler is dedicated to editing as a craft and works on various projects outside of KOCT to keep up to date on the ever-evolving technology. KOCT welcomes Tyler to the team!

KOCT Interns & Volunteers



Crystal Page grew up in Oceanside and produced her first narrative film here at the age of 17 and then launched the Good Fruit Productions Christian film festival in partnership with St. Francis of Assisi in Vista. She holds degrees from Loyola University of Chicago (B.A. Film and Theology) and the University of Southern California (M.F.A. Film Production). She’s produced more than 100 short films, music videos, radio broadcasts, and a Chicago-based reality show independently and with partners such as CAN-TV, Brave New Foundation, WLUW 88.7 Chicago, Dano2 Toys, and SEIU California.




Satomi is attending MiraCosta College to study Media Arts & Technology, including video production, 3D animation, and graphic design. She is working towards a Video and Media Design certificate for Spring 2018. Through MiraCosta College, Satomi was led to KOCT - North County's Channel. She is now a member of KOCT's video production team and has been working on editing projects and studio productions.

KOCT offers something for every individual seeking to learn new skills in the field of video production and editing. Interns work closely with our award-winning staff – from in-house productions to in-the-field shoots.

KOCT: The Oceanside Channel, a non-commercial PEG (Public, Education and Government) TV station covering everything from the city council to community events in Oceanside, is a great training ground where aspiring producers, editors, videographers, directors and broadcast talent can obtain real-world experience and programs for their Demo Reels. KOCT expects a commitment of time and talent but repays that commitment with assignments and projects that provide a significant boost for interns in their climb up the professional ladder. Here are real world examples of industrious young people who got their start at KOCT.

Robert Boyd

I'll always hold KOCT in the highest regard. There's no doubt it was a launching pad for my TV news career and I would totally encourage others to take advantage of all the opportunities it has to offer. I love TV news reporting because it allows you to go to new places and meet new people every single day. When you leave the house for work you have no idea what you may encounter, so it's your responsibility to be a quasi-expert on any topic at a moment's notice. Most importantly, you have the opportunity to make a difference in so many lives by bringing issues to light that affect those who live in your community. Ever since I was a child I wanted to be a news reporter. I began pursuing that goal early on, reporting for my high school and then college newspapers. After graduating from Duquesne University, in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA, I moved to San Diego to officially start my journalism career. I wrote for the weekly community newspaper, "The Coast News," where I covered the City of Oceanside.  It was through "The Coast News" that I discovered KOCT, and all it had to offer. I had the opportunity to report, write, edit and produce for a number of different shows, which laid the foundation from my transition to TV news. Using a resume filled with KOCT clips and references, I went on to work for San Diego stations KUSI and KGTV, where I wrote for their morning news shows. A short lime later I was hired by KDBC in El Paso, TX, where I reported and produced. I continued to climb to bigger markets, reporting in Fayetteville, AR, followed by Albany, NY and most recently Salt Lake City, UT, where I am currently a Reporter for KSTU Fox 13. It's been an exciting career that's allowed me to live and work all over the country and I'm proud to say it all began at KOCT in Oceanside, CA.




Kris Arciaga

KOCT is the best place for hands-on training. Through KOCT I gained valuable knowledge on how to operate various television studio equipment. When I told KOCT I wanted to be a television news photographer, they helped me by letting me shoot and edit various segments and events. These shoots provided me with the experience of using ENG cameras, wireless mics, lighting, editing and shooting techniques that I use in the field today. I was able to incorporate everything I learned and start a promising career as a television news photographer for FOX 5 News San Diego.





Kim Convoy

I have been editing for over 21 years and received my first television experience at KOCT where I worked on over 473 public television programs. During my career I have done numerous projects for high profile agencies and studios as a skilled Avid editor. I have worked on television, feature film and animation editing projects including: CBS "Dr. Phil"; NBC Universal "The Kardashians Take Miami", "Golden Globes," Nickelodeon "Figure It Out" game show, and Mark Burnett Productions "Wedding Day"; ABC offline editor; music videos for "Desperate Housewives"; Paramount Pictures/Klasky Csupo feature film editor for "Rugrats Go Wild" and "The Rugrat Movie."







Jason Williams

Jason began as a volunteer at KOCT and was soon hired for production staff where he performed a variety of roles. After leaving employment at KOCT, Jason spent 7 1/2 years with Outdoor Channel as an editor, then moved up to being a field producer. The role of a field producer included tasks such as hiring production crews and working with a team of producers for their network Off Roading series. Jason was a one-man production team; traveling, writing, shooting, and editing shows or web segments for the Outdoor Channel. He was also a production coordinator for contracted commercials for Chevy, Coleman camping gear, Polaris ATVs, CASE IH farming machines, and Outdoor Channel promotional commercials. Recently, Jason was first assistant director for the feature horror film "Penance". Jason recently wrote to KOCT: "...and of course I would have never have had any of these career opportunities had I not been trained at KOCT."


Elena Gomez

Elena Gomez is a San Deigo County native, born and raised in Vista. She knew she wanted to be a Reporter from the age of nine, when she would produce her own newscasts with her younger sister in their family's living room, using the coffee table as a news desk. Gomez got her start at NBC 7 as an assignment editor intern in the summer of 2008. She graduated from Chapman University in 2009, with a Bachelor's in Television and Broadcast Journalism and minors in Public Relations and Spanish. In college, Gomez received the "Most Promising Broadcast Journalist" award, one of Chapman University's most prestigious honors for broadcast students. After graduation she worked as an editor for NBC 7 News "Today" for over a year. Throughout her college years and after, Gomez worked at KOCT. Here she experienced true hands-on training by editing, writing, producing and reporting stories along with working as an assistant director, camerawoman and floor director for larger productions. She received W.A.V.E and S.T.A.R awards for reporting excellence and an award from the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists for producing an in-studio talk show. In September 2011, Elena earned a spot as a news associate for NBC 7, working as a multimedia journalist where she shot, edited, wrote and reported daily stories for the evening newscasts. She is currently a Reporter for NBC 7, San Diego.
